These days are long, every parent at home with small children will agree. Even when we have ambitious intentions of
preparing an environment that will allow our child to explore and play independently, success may be a 20-minute period of engagement, leaving us another nine hours to fill before bedtime.
Breaking the day up into segments helps tremendously. Routines enable us to know what comes next, and toddlers thrive when they get to be part of a predictable pattern.
"When we are done eating, we clean up the table. I will move the dishes to the sink and you can wipe our space with a sponge."
For adults, the pattern is comforting as well. Instead of that "what do I do now?" feeling, we can feel confident, knowing after a meal we do an indoor activity, then an outdoor activity, then a quiet time activity, or whatever pattern works for you.

Here is a loose, flexible example schedule for families with young children.

Families with multiple adults in the household may benefit from a visual aid that helps everyone get on the same page about how the child's day goes.
Many Monti Kids families have asked us to share ideas with them. We've made a printable version of this as well.
